National Society for Black Engineers (NSBE) 48th Annual Conference

-Anaheim, California

The NSBE National Conference allows black engineers to get an opportunity to network with recruiters at some of the biggest companies in the country as well as with fellow students. Their mission is to increase the number of culturally responsible Black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community.

Not only did the experience allow me to practice my interviewing and communication skills, but it helped me find a community at NYU. Before the conference, I had met very few black engineers at NYU Tandon so it was nice to connect with people like myself. They inspired me to keep fighting to achieve my dreams and not to be discouraged even when there are few black people who are on then same path. The experience encouraged me to take up a leadership role in the club for the next two years.

The Department of Integrative Health Programs offers Prepare for Surgery Heal Faster workshops and relaxation techniques for treatments and procedures for patients across all ages and health care concerns.

My role as a volunteer is to focus on the wellbeing of the nurses in the ICU and Labor and delivery wards. My responsibilities include proactive rounds on participating units to share integrative health wellness materials (specifically gratitude exercises, and techniques), demonstrate Integrative Health techniques to staff members and ask basic non-clinical questions to staff to identify interest and understanding of techniques. I also get the chance to interact with the residents and patients and observe as they do rounds.

National Society for Black Engineers (NSBE) 49th Annual Conference

-Kansas City, Missouri

We got the opportunity to interact with different professionals from many companies and got to speak to recruiters and practice our elevator pitches. I also attended the various workshops for work readiness that they had which will be very helpful in the future.

Participating in professional development activities provided me with valuable insights into recruiters’ expectations and the desired qualifications in my field.

It offered a unique opportunity to establish connections and network with engineers hailing from various universities across the country. Engaging with these professionals allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of their projects and initiatives, fostering a collaborative environment where we could exchange knowledge and learn from each other’s experiences.

Future Labs x GLASS Internship (Indistinguishable From Magic)

I worked with the startup company Indistinguishable From Magic as their Biomedical Research and Social Media Marketing Intern. This opportunity was given to me through the GLASS x Future Labs partnership.

I focus on adapting their device to the medical industry and for assistive technology. More specifically, I am working on a project to help the visually impaired navigate their surroundings using sensors on the company's device such as proximity, colour and distance modules. I also scripted and planned social media posts for the company.
