Leadership
Leadership encompasses more than just a position or title- it is a mindset and a set of qualities that inspire and guide others towards a shared vision or goal. Leadership involves having a clear vision, setting strategic objectives, and effectively communicating and inspiring others to rally behind that vision.
Pre-College Initiative (PCI) Chair (2022-2023)
I am part of the NYU National Society for Black Engineers (NSBE) and I have been the Pre-College Initiative Chair for the past year. I coordinate events such as mentorship and tutoring with our Junior Chapter at Brooklyn Tech. This gives the highschool students the opportunity to network with university students who can help them through their journey as they start thinking about career choices. This also allows people of color at these schools to see that there are people like themselves in engineering majors where we are the minority, and we work towards inspiring and encouraging them to follow their dreams regardless of any discrimination they may have faced.
Tutor- AP Chemistry, AP Biology, AP Precalc, AP Physics
The Metro Center CPA 1199 Program is a program that provides tutoring, financial and career services to high school students from low-income families around New York City. My role is an AP Chemistry, AP Biology, AP Physics, and AP Precalculus Tutor. I tutor a full class of students on Saturday mornings and a few students after school during the week. I create worksheets and the lesson material to keep the students engaged and to challenge them in preparation for the AP exams.
Communications Chair (2023-2024)
I served as the communications chair and was in charge of content creation and promoting engagement on the chapter’s social media accounts. I developed flyers and videos to advertise the club’s events and increase the turnout at events. I managed to get 35K views on our Tik Tok posts and increase the number of people watching our Instagram stories by doing some research and finding out what the people want to see.
NYU TRIO Scholars Tutor
TRIO Scholars Program is a program that provides tutoring, and career and mentorship services for NYU Tandon School of Engineering students from low-income families or first-generation students. This gives them the opportunity to get extra support without a financial burden, to bridge the inequality gap and give them the same opportunities as their peers. I have been a tutor for 2 years now and have been a General Chemistry I and II, Organic Chemistry I and II, General Chemistry for Engineers and Intro to Bio tutor and I am usually assigned about 10 students per semester. Each student gets an individual session for an hour a week and I host some drop-in tutoring sessions when finals and midterms are approaching. I use the student’s learning style assessment as well as my observations to curate the lesson material, create worksheets and PowerPoints and assign tasks to help improve their grades. I have helped improve many students who start out with a D to an A by the end of the semester.
